Gabriel Avigdor is a Swiss lawyer with a passion for new technologies, health, data protection and innovation. After several years in private practice and in industry, he earned the European CIPP/E certification in data protection.
He trained as a lawyer and, over time, focused on technology law, AI, data protection and digital health. His career has taken him through law firms, multinational companies and the health and tech sectors.
In 2018 he became a founding member of PrivacyRules, the first international alliance of data protection experts, where he represents Switzerland. Through this network he works on complex cross-border matters with specialists from many countries, under the GDPR, the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection and other privacy laws.
He holds the CIPP/E and is a member of the IAPP (International Association of Privacy Professionals).
For about 15 years he has supported legal and regulatory compliance projects. Most of them involve Swiss and European law, but many reach further, into Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Middle East. Working with international organisations, he has also helped developing countries draft, or fully rewrite, their data protection and digital laws.
Since 2017 he lectures technology law at HE-Arc Neuchâtel, on the Bachelor in Law and Economics. He also coordinates a module of the University of Geneva’s DAS/MAS programme on medical devices, covering health technologies, data ethics and digital law for businesses.
Digital health and medical software are a particular focus: the rules for medical device software, telemedicine and AI in healthcare. More recently, he has worked on projects where fintech meets AI, with a focus on fighting online fraud.
He speaks at conferences in Switzerland and abroad, from London to Beijing. He often takes part in podcasts and videos on new technologies and data protection, for businesses and the wider public, and comments on these topics in the media.
